naturism
Naturism, often called nudism, has as many definitions as there are naturists. The International Naturist Federation, which
represents millions of naturists around the world, including all members of Dutch Naturism, describes it as:
"A way of life in harmony with nature, expressed through social nudity, and characterized by the practice of communal
nudity, with the intention of encouraging self-respect, respect for others and for the environment."
Social nudity constitutes an essential characteristic of naturism, fully exploiting the beneficial effects of the sun, the air
and water. Naturism restores the balance between physic and psyche, with leisure spent in a natural environment, through
exercising the body, within the fundamental principles of hygiene and dietetics. Furthermore, naturism fosters many activities
by nurturing creativity.
Comprehensive nudity is the best approach to effect a return to nature. Without any doubt, it represents naturisms most
visible feature, though it's not the only one.
This comprehensive nudity is a great leveler, freeing people from the internal tensions generated by the taboos and the provocations of contemporary society, and pointing to a healthier and more humane way of life.
Who are naturists?
Anyone can be a naturist. Your background, age, shape and colour are irrelevant when it comes to enjoying the freedom of
naturism, which is why it attracts people from all walks of life. Naturists practice social nudity, aimed at encouraging self
respect, respect for the environment and others. We enjoy clothes free activities in the right environment, among like-minded
naturists and when it is warm enough.
So, naturists are not perverts, exhibitionists, child-molesters nor weirdoes. In fact, your neighbour, brother or sister could
be one without you knowing.
How to get started being naked
It's simple. There's really only one step, which costs nothing and requires very little time: Take your clothes off!
There, that wasn't so hard, was it? Really, that's all there is to it. Feels good, doesn't it? Keep in mind the old Chinese
saying, "I hear and I forget; I see and I remember; I do and I understand."
Of course, if you don't happen to be alone right now, you may not have tried this first step. Save it for some time you are alone, if you must. You will probably find it becomes comfortable very quickly. At some point you will almost certainly want to try nudity with others, however. The others might be family, close friends, people you live with, or perhaps, total strangers (which is often easier). Before you take that step, however, you will probably want more information and answers to concerns and questions you have. And when you are ready for something more than just being naked all by yourself in your room, you'll probably want some ideas for the best ways and places to start out. So, here are some ideas on how to get started.
Skinny-dip in your own pool or spa
If you live with others, they may find it a little odd if you just go naked around the house. However, they may be very
understanding if you go in the water without a bathing suit. There's a right time and place for most things, and water is one of
the most appropriate for nudity. I'm sure you'll love it that way, and others who may be around will have a chance to get used
to a little innocent nudity. They might even join you!
Do housecleaning or other chores in the nude
Are there some unwelcome chores you'd prefer to avoid but can't? Try doing them without any clothes on and see if it isn't a lot
more pleasant that way. (Hopefully, if it's something that has to be done outside, you have some privacy where you live.)
Gradually become more comfortable without clothes
If you live with others, be sure to respect their feelings. However, once they find out you like to be naked, they may not have
any problem with it, even if they don't choose to go along. Soon "no clothes" will come to seem normal, just another
way you may choose to be at times.
Fellas - it isn't likely to happen!
In the social situation of a club it would be very rare for you to have an erection; if you do, a dive in the nearest cold pool or the sea should help. On the beach, simply turn over till it goes away. And when you're off strolling for the first time, carry a towel which can be used to cover any embarrassment that may arise.
But please do not wear the towel unless you really need it! If you persist in covering up you'll soon get that feeling that everyone's looking at you! Best to go nude for anonymity!
Being nude is not compulsory, we're not out to catch pneumonia so dress if it's cold. Neither do we want sunburn so cover up with a T-shirt or blouse. If you meet anyone you know it only proves that you were more like-minded than you had thought previously. Other friends and acquaintances needn't know you're naturist unless you tell them as clubs and their members keep membership lists confidential.
Naturism in The Netherlands
There is no continent in the world where naturism is so well accepted as in Europe. Especially in countries like France, Germany and The Netherlands. The Netherlands has a long tradition of liberty, freedom and tolerance. This also extends to naturism. In The Netherlands, the country where I live, 1.5 million people are in someway familiar with the naturist lifestyle. (The Netherlands has 16,5 million inhabitants.) They visit saunas, nudist beaches, clothing optional campsites, or other places suitable for nude recreation. Some 60.000 people, mostly families, are a member of a naturist club.
The NFN (Netherlands Federation of Naturists) is the Dutch department of INF
(International Naturist Federation). If you want to know where nudist beaches are in The Netherlands just follow this link and you get
an overview where to go.
